Stanger/KwaDukuza Tourism Information
Tourism Information

In 2006 the official name of Stanger, North Coast was changed to KwaDukuza, the original Zulu name, (also called "Dukuza"), but many locals continue to call this North Coast town Stanger.
Kwadukuza or Stanger is best known for being the home of King Shaka's monument. King Shaka was assassinated in1828 by his two half-brothers, Dingane and Mhlangane, and after murdering him they buried the great king upright in a grain pit, over which now stands a simple stone memorial erected in King Shaka's honour in Stanger in 1932.

The Stanger, North Coast Area is of great cultural importance, and Stanger / Kwadukuza is one of many North Coast towns with a distinct Eastern flavour, due to the influx of Indian labourers who came to work on the KwaZulu Natal North Coast sugar cane fields during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Many markets, mosques and temples now add a lively essence to North Coast towns on the Dolphin Coast.

With the Stanger streets lined with jacarandas, and with tropical high humidity, Stanger / Kwadukuza lies in the heart of the KZN North Coast sugarcane fields, and forms part of the rich sugar belt that stretches down the KwaZulu Natal North Coast. Stanger is part of the renowned historic North Coast Zulu Heritage Route, which has been witness to immense changes and terrible conflict. Clan against clan and kingdom against kingdom, this is where Victorian Britain's military might was shaken by the valour of the Zulu's armed only with shields and spears.
